The Indian Institute of Management Shillong hosted a compelling session of its flagship Veteran Leadership Series on July 10, 2025, centered on the theme “Leadership Lessons: From Battlefield to Boardroom.”
The highlight of the event was the keynote address by Major General Rajesh Kumar Jha, AVSM (Retd.), Director (Personnel), NEEPCO, who was the Chief Guest for the occasion. A distinguished military leader and seasoned corporate executive, Major General Jha delivered an inspiring and deeply insightful talk that bridged the worlds of military strategy and corporate leadership.
Addressing a packed audience of students, faculty, and corporate guests, he shared powerful real-life experiences, emphasizing core leadership values such as strategic clarity, mission orientation, inclusivity, adaptability, and ethical decision-making.
A defining moment of his talk was the detailed reflection on Operation SINDOOR, which he presented as a transformative case study. He illustrated how the operation exemplified the principles of strategic convergence between the battlefield and the boardroom — highlighting crisis management, high-stakes decision-making, coordination under pressure, and an unwavering sense of duty and service.
Through the lens of Operation SINDOOR, Major General Jha demonstrated how the values honed in military service are directly applicable to corporate leadership, particularly in navigating complexity, driving change, and building resilient teams.
Earlier, the event began with a welcome address by Professor Nalini Prava Tripathy, Director-in-Charge, IIM Shillong, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to host such an accomplished leader. The session concluded with a spirited interaction, leaving the audience enriched and inspired.
