Introduction
Kopili Hydro Power Station was the maiden venture of NEEPCO when it came into existence in 1976.
The Kopili Hydro Power Station is a storage scheme with two Dams to harness the hydro power of Kopili River ( a tributary of Brahmaputra River) and the Umrong stream (a tributary of Kopili River). There are two Dams, one is the Khandong Dam that receives the inflow of Kopili River and the other is the Umrong Dam that receives the inflow of the Umrong stream and also receives the tailrace discharge of Khandong PS & Khandong Stage II PS. The Station is located at Umrangso, Dima Hasao District, Assam. The installed capacity of the Station is 275 MW with a catchment area of 1256 Sq. Km and design head of about 99 m for Khandong PS (50 MW) & Khandong Stage II PS (25 MW) and 326.5 m for the Kopili PS (200 MW).

The Renovation and Modernisation of 200 MW Kopili Power Station is completed on 03.06.2024. The revised annual design energy is 993.8 MU in a 90 % dependable year.
The Renovation and Modernisation of 50 MW Khandong Power Station is completed on 30.08.2025. The revised annual design energy is 217 MU in a 90 % dependable year.
